I had finally after many attempts found a way to get an interview with one of my favorite writers of all time, Jorge Luis Borges.

It took many letters to his secretary, his family and the Argentinean embassy to set this up. When he finally agreed to the meeting, i almost couldn’t believe it. It was almost like a dream.

So i went down to Buenos Aires and following his secretary’s instructions, i took a cab to the Biblioteca Nacional de la República Argentina (The National Library of Argentina) where she told me he had an office.

There i showed a guard my letter, and after verifying the information, i was taken to the back of the library. The building was larger than it seemed from outside. There was a secret door that he opened at the back wall of the library and a staircase that spiraled upwards lay before me. He pointed upwards and told me to go ahead.

As i was going up the stairs, all sorts of thoughts, ideas and questions were bubbling in my head. i tried to stay calm, but could not deny my excitement.

i prepared my camera so that i could take a picture of him to go along with the interview. I thought I would snap a picture of him as he opened the door for me, or as I walked in.

As i arrived at the top of the stairs, there was a thick wooden door with hieroglyphs etched into them. i could hear a heated discussion going on inside. Although i do not speak a lot of Spanish, i was able to understand a few words. It seemed like the argument was about the existence of worlds within worlds’ or something like that.

i knocked on the door, but nobody answered. i tried again, but it seemed they could not hear me and were deep into their conversation. So i slowly opened the door. i was shocked at what i saw, and so took this picture and then dashed down the stairs in shock.
